Tax gets higher the more you earn, but it isn't uncommon for people to have a total of 50% taxes on their income.

I work part-time, so I don't earn much and I have to pay 15%

Citizen tax, land tax and car tax ain't a laugh either.

Yeah, in Brazil, we have taxes that get higher the more you earn as well. Also, a bunch of other high as fuck taxes, including taxes on games, which is why that kinda stuff is so damn expensive either.

And don't even get me started on how we get little to no return.

Well, it's illegal to pee in public places... But ppl still do it in parks and forest. As long as you don't cause any harm to somebody's property or scar somebody, you are fine.

Public schools are chronically underfunded and teachers are generally treated like shit. And if you want to go to college, you either have the money saved up or take out a loan and wind up in debt for like, most of your life? >_>;
The public schools here where I live are okay, but that isn't the case in most big cities afaik.
